Roof Drains:

Roof drains are an essential part of your home, it is extremely important to keep them maintained.

A roof drain is connected to your downspout; they are underground and filter out to the street so they are able to drain. If roof drains are not cleaned every Fall you could have a serious problem on your hands. Leaves are the most common clogs inside the roof drains so it is important to get them cleaned out before winter when things start to freeze. If ice forms inside your roof drain it may cause water to back up into your basement. In turn you may also have problems with your sump pump not pumping the water correctly or not pumping it out at all. Then your sump pump will back up and you will have a whole new problem on your hands.

Just make the effort every Fall to call us and we will come out and cable your roof drains, we will stop the problem before it starts!

To test your roof drains for clogs:
Run garden hose to sump to fill up with water to make sure there is a steady flow. If trickles or drips it is clogged and needs repaired.

Hot Water Heater Maintenance:

Once a year you should drain your water heater down about 6in. This will keep sediment from building up in the bottom of the tank and keep your tank from losing some of its energy efficiency.

What you need to do is connect a garden hose to the drain near the bottom of the tank and put the other end in a floor drain. Open the drain valve located just above where you hooked the hose to. Let it drain about 2 min. if you have 3/4in. pipe feeding into the top of your heater, and 4 min. if you have 1/2in. pipe.
